BECOMING A MEMBER
Dear Prospective Member,
Welcome to IBEW Local 139. We appreciate your interest in our Local. You may become a member by any of the following means:
Applying for the apprenticeship program. Meet the minimum qualifications. Take and pass an aptitude test. Obtain an interview. Get placed on an eligibility list that the local chapter uses to pick its new apprentices.
OR
You may join a group of employees in organizing your workplace. Sign an authorization card giving IBEW Local 139 the right to bargain on your behalf. You will become a union who negotiates a contract with your employer covering wages, hours, and working conditions. Signing a card means you want a process where employees have a meaningful voice in your workplace and are no longer satisfied to leave all the important decisions up to management. Signing this card gives employees the right to have an open and free election without company intimidation, and the right to decide for yourself if you want a voice in your workplace and your future.
OR
Contact IBEW Local 139. Take and pass an eligibility examination. The union body votes on whether or not to accept you as a member.
Please call with any questions. We look forward to assisting you with your membership in Local 139.
